Two little colts (baby sandhill cranes)

This week I watched a couple sandhill cranes “walk” a six foot alligator all the way across the pasture to the pond. At one point, one of the cranes opened up it’s wings and walked sideways, as though they were protecting something. They must have a nest in the wild blackberry bushes near the pond.

Now I know why. Check out the little colts! They are adorable.

  1. We were in Florida in February and saw Sandhills cranes there. I understand they migrate to nesting grounds. How lucky you are to get to see the colts!
